On the last day of the festival, a concert matinee will take place at the Janáček Conservatory with a program exclusively dedicated to the works of the Ostrava Days Institute residents. This event represents a one-of-a-kind opportunity to witness the creative approaches and innovative compositional methods of these young composers. The works presented at this concert are often diametrically opposed to one another – one may encounter compositions on the threshold of hearing that are based on sophisticated timbral processes, and compositions that are sonically aggressive and gravitate towards noise music. This heterogeneity shows the abundance of ideas in new and experimental music – Last Call can be considered a kind of “kaleidoscope” that lets us see a partial image of contemporary composition. It also bears mentioning that the program features current works by young composers, which usually cannot be heard anywhere other than at Ostrava Days.
